This week, the Artwalk kicks off in Nevada City. The Artwalk is a celebration of Nevada City’s diverse mix of galleries, artisan boutiques, retail shops, wine tasting rooms and restaurants, as well as the artistic and creative communities. Participating downtown businesses will stay open until 9 p.m. the first Friday of every month, and many will host “receptions” with local artists, trunk shows and/or performances.

Many shops will also offer snacks and beverages as well as sales and specials only valid for the event. By having downtown businesses support local artists and celebrating our creative community, we hope to also celebrate our local businesses and our wildly creative community, according to organizers.

It will be a suitable event for the family or a good “date night” destination, bringing a celebratory energy to downtown Nevada City.

There will be live music and theatrical performances at various locations throughout downtown, including Robinson Plaza (in front of the Chamber of Commerce) and on the boardwalk on Commercial Street. Organizers have invited local artists residing in the downtown vicinity to host open studios to showcase their art.

In addition, there will be a youth arts showcase featuring artists between the ages of 4 and 18 with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses.

This event will go year-round, and organizer Cynthia Levesque (owner of Neva Co. Artisan Boutique) said she is really thrilled to be kicking it off during the fun summer vibe that June brings to Nevada City.

This week’s event is from 5 to 9 p.m. For information, please contact Cynthia at 530-575-8846 or email nevacoboutique@gmail.com.
