Accardi leaving KVMR airwaves; Final show Monday

Jimmi Accardi — the self-proclaimed “Wild Man” of Monday afternoons on KVMR 89.5 FM — will hold one final raucous”Rock’n’Roll Party” on the radio station Monday as part of the May membership drive.

The special three hour blow-out special, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., will feature the original versions of songs later made famous by others, some of Jimmi’s own work and recollections of his touring days with the Monkees and Chubby Checker, studio work with Harry Nilsson, plus playing with his band The Laughing Dogs at the fabled CBGB’s Club in New York City.

He’ll also play an out-of-the-box film review he and fellow broadcaster Dawn Fischer did on the Evening News earlier this century.

Chances to become a Jimmi Angel and become a card-carrying member of the Jimmi Accardi Fan Club will abound on his final show, and “taste may be thrown out the window,” says one KVMR insider.

He’s hosted the show for over 20 years and needs to attend to family matters, at least in the next year or so.
