“A SongBird Christmas,” a new musical comedy by John Driscoll and Jan Kopp, opens Friday at Off Broadstreet Cabaret Dessert Theatre, 305 Commercial St., Nevada City

The zany musical comedy stars Jan Kopp, Nancy Keith, Kris Stepanian and Jay Barker

Angela Dubrowski (Kris Stepanian) has bought a struggling sports bar and turned it into a retro tavern called “Deja Vu,” which specializes in nostalgic music of the 1940s through 1980s.

As Angela prepares for her grand opening party on Christmas Eve, she faces two obstacles: Her own lack of self-confidence and the negativity of the pub’s previous bartender Nick (newcomer Jay Barker).

Enter two well-meaning but inept guardian angels who try to correct the situation.

The problem is, “Teen Angel” (Jan Kopp) and “Ebony Eyes” (Nancy Keith) aren’t sure of exactly which person they have been sent to help.

“A SongBird Christmas” features many top billboard songs from the latter 20th Century — like “Steam Heat,” “Power of Love,” “Swinging on a Star,” “Right Next Door to an Angel,” “Run Rudolph, Run” and many more.

Hits are included by such musical icons as Huey Lewis, Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Nicks, Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, Chuck Berry, Bobby Vee, Neil Sedaka and many others.

Choreography is by of Lyra Dominguez.
