Judge us by our treatment of animals
December 26, 2012
For weeks now, there has been nothing in The Union about Frankie, the little dog that was beaten, shot and left to starve or die from his assault. This is a county that is rich in animal advocacy, yet we haven’t read any updates on Placer Sheriff Department’s progress toward arrest and indictment of the perpetrator.
Adding Frankie’s case to the Silva case where Nevada County’s courts ignored the statutes by returning abused livestock to their convicted abuser and, prior to that, soft-peddled the infamous opossum case a few years back, one can only wonder if we’re living in an area whose legal systems might be struggling with old concepts of animal welfare.
Open up to us and let us know our concerns for wronged animals are being addressed. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” — Mohandas K. Gandhi
