On behalf of SYRCL, I sincerely regret that we inadvertently distressed Ashley Neumann or anyone else who attended our Wild & Scenic Film Festival program for our local schools last week.
More than 1,400 students attended this year’s school program over two days at 12 film sessions, and our staff and volunteers did their best to provide a safe and positive educational experience. However, as Ms. Neumann correctly reported in her letter to The Union, our film program was scheduled to end at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, and instead the program ran short by 10-15 minutes. Although the film session ended early, the students left the theater accompanied by their teachers or chaperones. I empathize with Ms. Neumann’s concern for the safety of the six students in her charge and am relieved that not only was everyone fine, but that the teachers did a great job keeping track of them, according to her own report.
I welcome feedback from Ms. Neumann, and other teachers, students and parents who attended this year so that we might improve our program and procedures for next year. Please feel free to communicate your complaints, comments and concerns directly to me at email@example.com or 265-5961.
