A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone involved in making the 130th year of the Grass Valley Ladies Relief Society Donation Day event possible. The tradition of filling and distributing the many boxes of food to members of the community in need was successful because of the help of local children, parents and schools. Brian Martinez, principal of the Grass Valley Charter School, his staff and students welcomed our organization and enthusiastically assisted with the event.
Sunny weather greeted the school children marching through town and into the multipurpose room at the school to deliver their canned goods. It truly gave the children a sense of the season of giving. The parade route was filled with happy spectators while downtown Grass Valley merchants and individuals added to the canned food and made monetary contributions.
Thank you to the Grass Valley Police and Fire Department, the Marine Corps Color Guard, our favorite returning bagpipers and Lyman Gilmore Middle School band for making our day both safe and festive. The Union and KNCO were generous as always in publicizing Donation Day. Additional businesses including Weiss Brothers, Jazzercize, Marshall’s Pasties, SPD, Safeway, Raley’s and Save Mart supported our mission of helping. We are grateful for the continuing support of the Nevada County Probation Department, Project Heart, Nevada Union High School FFA students and advisor, Native Sons of the Golden West, Deacon Dave Ferrell, Neal La Francois and Bill and Cindy Cara.
Lastly, thank you to the women of this organization for their tireless dedication throughout the year and to their families and friends who joined in to help make Donation Day 2013 a joyous success.
