A Sacramento man remained in custody Tuesday, allegedly found in possession of 138 pounds of marijuana after a patrolman pulled him over for passing multiple vehicles on the shoulder of Interstate 80.
Brandon T. Cook, 46, was arrested west of the eastbound Donner Summit rest area shortly after noon Monday by the Truckee branch of the California Highway Patrol, reported its Public Information Officer Peter Mann.
A CHP officer spotted a white Toyota Rav 4 passing several vehicles on the shoulder and stopped the vehicle at the rest area’s parking lot, Mann reported.
When the officer made contact with Cook, the officer reportedly smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle.
The officer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and allegedly discovered 138 pounds of marijuana in large duffel bags on the back seat and $2,600 in cash, Mann said.
Cook, who described his occupation as “collectibles,” was arrested on two felony charges of possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of a drug and booked into the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department Truckee substation jail.
He remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $250,000 bail.
