Nevada County on cutting edge of children’s services

I’d like to offer my congratulations to Nevada County for being honored recently with a special award from the California State Association of Counties (CSAC), which annually recognizes innovative, cost-effective county programs that improve service.

Rather than recognizing a specific county program, CSAC took a different approach this year by honoring a county for the totality of its efforts in a particular area. In this case, Nevada County was honored for its innovative and successful work in the area of children’s behavioral health services.

When I took office as CSAC president last fall, I declared 2013 to be the “Year of the Child” in county government. Through its effective programs, Nevada County is showing time and time again that it emphasizes serving the needs of children. From creating videos that allow at-risk youth to tell their stories to providing outpatient mental health services to school children, from utilizing new ways to assist Latino families to connect with mental health services to your “What’s Up Wellness Checkups,” Nevada County is continually developing new, innovative ways to improve service delivery of much-needed programs.

Congratulations to Nevada County for being on the cutting edge of providing services to our children.

David Finigan

President, California State Association of Counties

Del Norte County Supervisor
