Last week I lost my husband. I am writing this letter with grief and much anger. He died of prostate cancer because his Veteran’s Administration doctor stopped testing him for prostate cancer because “he was 80 years old and in such good health.” Yes he was in great health — he survived 33-plus hours after he was taken off life support.
He lived to be 89. And so to all of you gentlemen out there, talk to your doctor, ask questions about your care.
My husband thought he was being tested every six months for prostate cancer. And to all you doctors out there — give up your old ideas, keep your practice up to date, read all medical bulletins and listen to all the new young doctors. Eighty years old is the new 70 or even 60. Prostate cancer is curable when caught early.
