I am writing to express my dismay at the decline of journalistic style of The Union. The police blotter used to afford some good laughs and was instructive about the state of our community. Sadly, it has devolved into an often indecipherable waste of time. Whatever happened to complete sentences? When did it become OK to write for a newspaper using run on sentences that require multiple re-reads to understand?
“A caller from the 200 block of South Church street reported a red older two-door Ford truck with a camper shell and no plate parked behind the building that the caller believes may have been the same vehicle driving around trying to get children into their vehicle.”
“A caller from the 300 block of Mill Street reported a broken window at a rental property, who they believe is one of the tenants.”
“A caller from the 11500 block of Clover Valley Road reported a juvenile was visiting a friend of the family and was picked up by a subject who works for the Northern California Family Center, and the juvenile was taken to Contra Costa County and placed in a foster home there without authorization.”
Just had to get that off my chest.
