Kudos to NUHS football from Gold Country Community Services

Each fall, the phone rings off the hook when Gold Country Community Services begins enrolling elderly citizens in its Senior Firewood Program. Each year, this volunteer program has helped to heat 100 to 125 senior homes with donated wood. This year, the program has gathered more wood than ever before but now faces the challenge of how to generate the gas money to deliver all the wood that has been gathered.

To help meet this challenge, players on the Nevada Union High School football team donated their Sunday morning to package some of the firewood into bundles that can be sold at nearby campgrounds. Given this is a new endeavor for GCCS, the young men actually engineered a system that produced 300 bundles in just over two hours. At the conclusion of the event, I was convinced that “Miner Magic” is just as powerful off the field as on! On behalf of the seniors whom we will assist this winter, go Miners!
