South County Winery announces new food partnership, 2013 entertainment

Naggiar Vineyard and Winery announced its 2013 live music line-up and special events this week, along with details of an enhancement to its entertainment venue.

The South Nevada County winery joined forces with a new partner this winter and is investing some of the new capital back into an expanded outdoor entertainment area, including a larger, reconfigured stage that creates more of an amphitheater-like environment for live music. They have also teamed up with Jim Eckardt of JimE’s Catering of Club 141 to offer a new and varying menu of appetizers and small plates for the larger events.

“In the long-term I’d like to imagine that this place will be known for not just great wine, but great food and great music,” said co-owner and founder Mike Naggiar.

For Eckardt, the new adventure wasn’t one he could pass up.

“I’m excited for this new venture in a beautiful location,” he said.

Eckardt’s weekend menus will feature some of Club 141’s most popular tapas with some new small plate additions, all of which will compliment Naggiar’s wide variety of wine. There will also be special menus for the tribute series and special events.

Naggiar’s signature Tribute Series has proved popular. Last year all five shows sold out, prompting Naggiar to consider an expansion, he said.

This year, the tribute shows will feature a double bill. For example, the May 25 show will be a Tribute to Lynyrd Skynryd, featuring Skynnyn Lynnyrd and a Tribute to Journey featuring Journey Unauthorized. Each band will perform for a 75-minute set, with a break in between acts.

The tribute concerts will begin at 5:30 p.m. — with access to seating opening at 4 p.m. and run until 9 p.m.

Tickets for the tribute series will be $40 for Naggiar Wine Club members and $45 for non-members. The wine club will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets at the April release party. The general public can purchase tickets beginning April 22. People will be able to purchase tickets for all shows at once, or pick and choose which they want. They are on sale through the winery.

In addition to the tribute series, the winery will also host five special events with live music. That includes their May 11 Release Party featuring the Regulators, a Memorial Day Party with a Tribute to Santana featuring Chameleon, an Independence Day Party with a Tribute to Johnny Cash featuring James Garner, a Harvest Celebration with Fun and Company and a Halloween Party with Stone’s Throw.

The winery will also continue their Friday and Saturday evening live music performances on the patio when one of the larger events isn’t taking place, Naggiar said.

In all, there will be 58 nights of live music between May 11 and the end of October, he added.

More detailed information about the individual tribute series and special events will be in Prospector before each show.

The expansion to the outdoor entertaining area includes additional table and chairs seating under a shaded area. Up closer to the stage will be lawn area where people can sit with blankets and low-back chairs. All patrons will be able to overlook the grapevines that stretch over the rolling hills of South County.
