The Grass Valley Planning commission has approved an application to subdivide the site of the old Meeks Lumber Yard located in the Glenbrook Basin.
The 6.1 acre commercial property will be split into six smaller parcels, ranging from 18,000 square feet to 1.6 acres apiece.
There are two large existing structures currently on the property, a 22,000-square-foot retail location and a 22,400-square-foot warehouse, but there’s a proposal to demolish them.
The property also includes a large parking lot.
“It’s pretty much already developed, they just want to subdivide it to create more flexibility,” said Tom Last, Grass Valley’s director of community development.
“Demolition permits are pretty straight forward. It’s almost over the counter.”
At this point, the next step is up to the property owner. No applications have been filed yet, but Last said it is at least conceivable that a project could be underway by the end of the year.
“When they’re ready to sell off potential parcels, they have to get the map recorded and apply with any conditions of approval,” Last said. “Potentially, individuals could buy a lot and propose some kind of development.”
Now that the subdivide map has been approved, the property owners have three years before it expires in July 2017.
