A total of nine individuals were arrested at a residence on the 300 block of Buena Vista Road earlier this week.
“It’s very common to find wanted subjects together,” said Sgt. Clint Bates with the Grass Valley Police Department.
“A lot of them are homeless or transient, so it’s pretty common for all of them to gather in one place.”
Officers were led to the residence while investigating an alleged car burglary. A purse had been stolen, and it contained a bank card that was still being used.
Officers say they were able to obtain security surveillance footage of the stolen card being used from at least two local businesses. One of them recognized a male subject from the video.
“Based off that identification, officers responded to a residence on the 300 block of Buena Vista and ended up having to force entry into the residence,” Bates told The Union.
Inside, they found 11 individuals, some of whom were reportedly hiding.
Three of them had outstanding arrest warrants.
Troy Anthony Allen, a 42-year-old Grass Valley resident, was arrested on seven different charges, including burglary, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a credit card.
“At the time of his arrest, he was in the process of burning part of the evidence,” Bates said.
They also allegedly found small, personal amounts of methamphetamine, some of which was in liquid form, pre-loaded into syringes for intravenous use.
During that initial search, officers became suspicious that other stolen property might be there at that address.
Tuesday, the Grass Valley Police Department returned to the residence on Buena Vista Avenue and arrested five additional suspects. Bates told The Union that one of the individuals arrested turned out to be a wanted felon in possession of a loaded firearm, but as of deadline that information could not be verified in the sheriff’s booking logs.
One of the suspects involved in using the stolen debit card is still at large, and the Grass Valley Police say they will continue to follow up on that part of this ongoing investigation.
