One man was arrested, but another was being sought, by Grass Valley Police after several burglaries that had Mill Street residents on edge.
On Thursday, a resident of the 300 block called police to report that a shed in the backyard possibly had been broken into. Extensive damage was located and a burglary report was taken, according to dispatch reports.
Friday morning, a resident in the 400 block reported a man had been in a backyard and possibly was in a neighboring residence; the man was seen again Saturday morning “shuffling” through garbage near the creek.
Another caller from the 300 block reported that someone might be casing a residence.
The suspect in the Thursday burglary was identified as Boyd Barney, said Grass Valley Police Sgt. Clint Bates.
“We have been actively looking for him,” Bates said. “We issued a pickup order for him.”
On Sunday at about 5:40 p.m., a resident of the 400 block of Mill Street called police to report seeing a man believed to be Barney. An area check was done but no one was located, Bates said.
Just after officers left the area, a woman from the 300 block of Mill Street called 911 to report that a man had kicked her front door in and entered her residence. He fled on a bicycle after she confronted him, Bates said.
“She followed him down the street,” Bates said. “She flagged officers down and directed them to the rear of a residence in the 400 block, where there was a granny unit.
Officers found the mountain bike the suspect apparently had ditched, and found the front door of the granny unit had been kicked in, Bates said.
Inside, officers found a man identified as Jared Michael Cline, 27, of Grass Valley.
“He refused to cooperate and resisted arrest,” Bates said. “He was subdued and taken into custody.”
The woman positively identified Cline as the man who kicked in her door, Bates said. Cline was booked into county jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, burglary of an inhabited dwelling, vandalism and committing a felony while on bail. He was being held in lieu of $100,750 bail.
It was unclear whether Cline has any connection to Barney, who is still being sought by police. Cline was recently arrested in Grass Valley, on Jan. 22, for trespassing in a vacant residence and possession of a controlled substance.
