We recently experienced a huge loss in our family. Our son, William “Ziggy” Moyer, who was born July 27, 2013, passed away only 21 hours after he was born due to a rare chromosome disorder called Trisomy 18.
The outpouring of support from family, friends and our community has been overwhelming. We have received meals and letters and gifts from friends and family and prayers and well wishes from those whom we’ve never met. Although we are still grieving and will continue to grieve for the days, weeks, months and years to come, we would like to give back to our community as a way of saying thanks.
One way of giving back is to host a canned food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Nevada County and a blanket donation to benefit the U.C. Davis Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. We’re asking folks to donate nonperishable can food items, baby blankets, receiving blankets and preemie-size “onesies.” Donations can be made by contacting me (Allison Moyer) at 530-913-3850.
I know this is a drop in the bucket compared to the support we’ve received in the past nine weeks, but we’ve got to start somewhere. Thank you so much.
