Search warrant served at Deadmans Flat encampment

Four people were arrested, and several others cited, after members of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force served a search warrant on a man and his son at a large “transient-style” camp off Deadmans Flat Road Friday.

Jeff Warren was pulled over on a traffic stop on Loma Rica Drive in Grass Valley at about 1 p.m., said Sheriff’s Deputy John Dzioba.

A search allegedly uncovered five baggies of methamphetamine totaling 2 to 3 grams; he also was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance.

Cheryl Lynn Jager, 46, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, booked and released on $1,000 bail.

While being booked, Warren allegedly admitted to jail personnel that he was hiding four more bags of meth tucked behind his scrotum.

Detectives then served a second search warrant on an encampment on a large parcel on Deadmans Flat Road, private property whose owner was unaware of the people living there.

The camp was full of RVs, trailers, trash and debris, Dzioba said.

Deputies searched Warren’s trailer at the camp and allegedly found a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia. His charges and bail amount were not available as of press time.

His son — Brandon Corkey Warren, 21 — was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence, booked and released on $1,000 bail.

Several other people at the transient camp also were arrested.

Shawn Curtis Eddy, who was on post-release community supervision, was searched and deputies allegedly found a meth pipe on his person.

He also allegedly was under the influence of a controlled substance, and was booked on the charges as well as a probation hold, Dzioba said.

Christopher Ponce and Dwayne Elder were cited and released on suspicion of trespassing.
