Grass Valley man arrested on drug charges

A Grass Valley man was arrested Saturday night in Grass Valley’s Brunswick basin on drug possession charges and five outstanding misdemeanor warrants, a spokesperson for the Grass Valley Police Department said Sunday.

Michael Loy Gordon, 33, was arrested around 10 p.m. Saturday on the 700 block of Sutton Way after police caught Gordon discarding drugs during a foot pursuit by a Grass Valley police officer.

“Our officer observed a suspicious male in the 1000 block of Plaza Drive near the gas station,” Sgt. Clint Bates said.

“When he went to contact the male, he saw the male subject from a distance, hiding in the bushes. As he approached, the male subject jumped up and started running.”

A foot pursuit ensued and ended in Brunswick’s Glen Brooke Plaza, where Gordon attempted to hide from police a second time. Gordon had five local misdemeanors warrants for his arrest in relation to driving privilege violations.

During the arrest, police found discarded methamphetamine, heroin and hashish scattered near the area where Gordon attempted to hide.

“They were personable amounts,” Bates said.

“It looked like a quarter-gram of methamphetamines, a quarter-gram of heroin, and three and a half grams of hashish, concentrated marijuana.”

Bates added, “He had discarded them, but they were in the same location that he was hiding in. He carried them the whole time, hid from the officer, and all the discarded evidence was around the same location with additional evidence tying him back to the narcotics.

Dating back to January 2006, Gordon has been charged with more than 20 counts, which include previous felony counts for the sale of a controlled substance and residential burglary,

Gordon is being held on a $50,500 bail.
