Verna Mae Bergthold

Verna Mae Bergthold, age 82, passed away on March 30, 2013 into the hands of the Lord whom she loved and served after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease at Golden Empire Convalescent Home in Grass Valley.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, 12 April 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 11481 State Highway 174, Grass Valley, Ca

She was a former public accountant who was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Grass Valley, California. Mrs. Bergthold was born in Whittier, California in 1930 and raised in Fresno, California where her father was an itinerant farmer and golf course grounds keeper. She graduated from Fresno High School in 1948 before moving to Santa Cruz, California where she worked at County Bank and Bogard Construction. She eventually started her own business as a public accountant and tax preparer. She was very active at Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Santa Cruz, California and in the lives of her three children. She loved knitting, swimming, camping, water skiing, and any activities her kids were involved in. Her husband of 64 years, Marty Bergthold, continues to live in their home in Alta Sierra.

Survivors include her brother, Doug Martin of Santa Cruz; sister, Marie Green of Sacramento; three children, Richard Bergthold of Annandale, Virginia, Debra Scheele of Temecula, California, and Randy Bergthold of Grass Valley; and eight grandchildren.

The family has designated the Alzheimers Association (www.alz.org) for memorial contributions.
