Six arrested in meth bust in Grass Valley

Members of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force ended up arresting six people on drug charges after allegedly witnessing a hand-to-hand drug transaction in front of a Grass Valley restaurant.

The task force had a search warrant for Dawn Dereese Medeiros and located her in front of the restaurant in the 200 block of East Main Street at about 11 p.m. Friday, said Deputy John Dzioba.

Detectives saw Medeiros and a man identified as Larry Bruce Graham engaged in what they believed to be a drug transaction, Dzioba said.

Medeiros was searched and allegedly was found to have “just shy” of 1 gram of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, including straws and spoons, on her person. She also allegedly was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Graham was found to be in possession of about three grams of methamphetamine and was under the influence of a controlled substance, Dzioba said.

Medeiros, 58, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possession for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance. She was booked and released on $37,000 bail.

Graham, 62, of Grass Valley, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and being under the influence, and was booked and released on $11,000 bail.

Task force members then searched Medeiros’ residence in the 300 block of Marshall Street in Grass Valley, where they located four adults and two children.

During a search of the house, they allegedly located more than 20 grams of methamphetamine, packaging material, digital scales and drug paraphernalia, as well as marijuana.

Joni Kathleen Logan, 52, and Dennis Leon Lee, 40, both of Grass Valley, were arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance, booked and released on $2,000 bail.

Michael Douglas Jarrett, 35, of Grass Valley, was booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, as well as being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was being held in lieu of $12,000 bail.

A woman identified as Shawna Heinz allegedly was under the influence of a controlled substance and was sitting on a couch in the residence with the two children, who are 4 and 6 years old, in her arms, Dzioba said. The drugs in the residence were accessible to the children, he added.

Heinz was cited on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and child endangerment.

The two children were placed with Child Protective Services, Dzioba said.
