The residents of Grass Valley are very blessed to have a rich history of pioneer activity, which enables the present residents to enjoy life as they know it in the Gold Rush area today.
Unfortunately, there are some residents who feel that history is not to be valued and protected.
I am writing in reference to vandalism to a historic Jewish burial site in Grass Valley.
The Commission for the Preservation of Pioneer Jewish Cemeteries and Landmarks in the West is a charitable organization which oversees the Shaar Zedek Pioneer Jewish Cemetery on Second Street in Grass Valley, as we have been doing for many years.
We have taken great care in maintaining and protecting these important burial grounds; however, neighboring residents persist in desecrating these ancient religious grounds, blatantly violating the law.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to catch them while they are committing this vandalism.
We are asking citizens of Grass Valley to assist us in bringing the perpetrators to justice. The Grass Valley police are assisting us, but we need your eyes and photographs to help us apprehend the vandals. Please contact me with any information and photographs. I can be reached at email@example.com.
