Sheriff speaks on safety, not for or against Agenda 21
February 11, 2013
In response to Ms. Hall's Other Voices article appearing Feb. 8, I feel it important to note that I was asked to attend the Agenda 21 presentation as a representative of the Sheriff's Office to provide an overview of contemporary law enforcement issues affecting Nevada County and our state. I was not asked to participate or speak as a proponent of Agenda 21.
The audience at the meeting represented a wide variety of beliefs and political affiliations. These were our neighbors and friends, many of whom were Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and Tea Party members. I applaud our community for having folks who will take time out of their day to become educated on issues such as these. I am sure there were those present that had already drawn an opinion regarding Agenda 21 and others who were there solely to become more informed. I am neither endorsing nor debunking Agenda 21.
Over the years, I have made it my practice to speak at a variety of meetings as a means to inform the public regarding public safety and law enforcement issues. These speaking opportunities promote community involvement in Sheriff's Office processes to make our community a safer place to live.
