Trommel rolls through Nevada County (VIDEO)
June 20, 2013
A 65-foot long and 10 1/2 foot in diameter trommel, built by Hydro-Watt CEO Michael Wedel and Sierra Metal Fabricators, was moved through Nevada County Tuesday en route to its destination in New Braunfels, Texas.
This project has been in production for six months, from purchase order, to material procurement, to component fabrication, and finally to assembly.
The trommel, which is used to eliminate dirt and clay that sticks to rocks and gold, weighs 210,000 pounds with all associated components, was being shipped by Taylor Heavy Haul.
Wedel leaves Thursday for Texas to install the trommel, which will be placed on pillars three to four stories in the air.
“We will put this up in the air, so the sand and gravel goes into a hopper underneath,” Wedel said, adding it will take about two and a half weeks to be secured.
“Then I’ll be done, but at least I can sleep tonight now that it’s on the road,” he said. “I hope we get some more (orders)!”
