A Penn Valley man was arrested after an investigation into child pornography that crossed three county lines.
Sutter County authorities initially began investigating a case in which child pornography was being distributed via an Internet Protocol (IP) address in Yuba County, said Nevada County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Tripp.
“That ultimately led” to an address here, Tripp said.
Detectives from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit served a search warrant Thursday morning at a residence in the 19000 block of Cobblers Way, seizing computer equipment.
There were three or four people there, Tripp said. One of the residents, identified as Ryan Leigh Shuart, 33, allegedly made an admission that led to his arrest.
Tripp said the case remains under investigation, and it was not clear what Shuart’s role in the distribution might be or if other arrests are pending.
At this point, there is no evidence of local victims, Tripp said, adding that it can be hard to identify child victims from photographs.
Shuart was booked into county jail on suspicion of advertising for sale or distribution of obscene matter depicting a person younger than 18, engaging in or simulating sexual conduct. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
