Man arrested after reportedly trying to retrieve stolen goods

A Grass Valley man was arrested after he tried to retrieve a backpack he had dropped the day before — while being chased for allegedly shoplifting a number of items from a Glenbrook Basin grocery store. The suspect, Christopher Douglas Jenkins, 39, was described by Grass Valley Police Capt. Rex Marks as a repeat offender with more than five prior theft convictions. Police had responded to a 911 call from the store in the 600 block of Sutton Way just before 5 p.m. Monday for a shoplifter who had been chased by an employee and dropped the items.
