Supervisors vote to lease Diebold voting machines
August 22, 2006
The Nevada County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $250,000 contract on Tuesday to rent Diebold voting systems for the Nov. 7 election.
Supervisors peppered Clerk-Recorder Kathleen Smith and Diebold California Project Manager Mike Rockenstein with questions at the meeting before the vote.
Several local residents also spoke at the meeting. They expressed concerns about the security of Diebold systems, which have come under fire in various parts of the nation.
The company’s voting systems have been certified by the California Secretary of State pending several safeguard measures that must be taken to protect the integrity of elections.
