YOUTH GYMNASTICS: Gold Country gymnasts shine at state, advance to regionals

Members from the Gold Country Gymnastics Level 5 boys team put forth an impressive effort at the State Championships in Emeryville over the weekend and will be advancing to the Regional Championships.
In Level 5 (5-9 years olds), Zachary T. placed third on the pommel (10.4), took fifth on the rings (9.65) and had a solid score on the floor exercise (9.95) to finish with an all-around score of 45.40, qualifying him for regionals.
In the same division, Rowan H. will also be heading to regionals after finishing with an all-around score of 51.6. His day was highlighted by a 10.2 on the floor, a 9.35 on the pommel and an 8.7 on the rings.
The Level 5 boys regionals will take place in Reno in April.
The Level 4 gymnasts from Gold Country also competed at the state championships.
In Level 4 (9-10 year olds), Logan C. finished with an all-around score of 57.8. He had strong scores in the floor exercise (9.6), pommel (9.5), parallel bars (9.2) and finished third in the hi-bar (10.4).
In the same division, Keegan M. tallied an all-around score of 47.5 with an 8.5 on the floor exercise and 8.6 on the vault.
In Level 4 (7-8 year olds), Austin W. finished with an all around score of 52.50 with solid scores in the floor exercise (9.0), pommel (9.2), rings (8.8), vault (8.7) and parallel bars (8.8).
While the boys were competing at the state championships, the Gold Country girls team prepared for their upcoming state meet with the Flower Power Invitational in Rancho Cordova.
For the Xcel team Kylie L. finished first on the vault (9.25) and the floor exercise (9.175) in the Diamond Level (all ages).
In the Gold Level (older age group), Megan H. finished with her highest all-around score of the season with a 34.25.
In the Gold Level (middle age group), Samantha G. placed first on the vault (9.35), sixth on the beam (8.85), seventh on the floor exercise (9.15) and finished with her highest all-around score (35.575) of the season.
In the Silver Level (older age group), Neila R. set a new season high with an all-around of 34.4. She was strong on the vault (8.55), bars (8.65) and floor exercise (8.8).
In the Silver Level (middle B age group), Teran B. placed second on the beam with a score of 9.475. She finished with an all-around score of 35.825.
In Level 6 (all ages), Megan K. set a personal season high with an all-around score of 34.175 with strong efforts on the vault (9.0), beam (8.675) and floor exercise (8.65).
The Xcel team has their State Championships on March 25-26 in Livermore. Level 6 State Championships will be April 1-2 in McClellan Park.
