Usual suspects claim top spots at Bear River 5K

The Bear River 5K marked the sixth stop along the 11-race Gold Country Grand Prix with many of the usual suspects claiming top spots in their respective age groups.
Of the 18 age groups, 10 Bear River 5K winners had previously won a grand prix race this year.
The first to finish the 5K was Jack Bordoni, 19. The speedy distance runner finished in a time of 17 minutes and 29 seconds for his second straight grand prix overall win.
In July, Bordoni also was the top overall finisher in the Freedom 5K. Bordoni currently trails Ryan Meacher by 10 points in the 19-29 GP standings.
The top women's finisher was Makie Ohler, 51, with a time of 21:01. With the win, Ohler collected her fifth age group win of the season and leads the 50-59 AG by 14 points over Anna King.
In the men's 50-59 AG, Steve Bond (21:37) won his fifth race of the season and now sits atop of the GP standings, leading Philip Desjardins by four points and Robert Warner by eight.

Placing first in the women's 60-69 AG was Genielle Odom with a time of 32:11. Odom has won three races this season and now has a strong 17-point lead in the GP standings.
In the men's 60-69 AG, Jim Bordoni claimed the top spot with a time of 21:51. Denis O'Halloran maintains the 60-69 AG lead in the GP standings with 44 points, 12 more than the next competitor.
In the women's 70 and older AG, Lynne Hurrell took first with a time of 30:09. It was Hurrell's fifth win of the season, and she leads the GP standings handily.
Taking the top spot in the men's 70 and older AG was Al Shook who crossed the finish line in a time of 24 minutes flat. Ron Gross maintains the GP lead in that AG with 50 points. Darryl Beardall is close behind with 44 points, and Gary Loucks is in third with 38 points.
Jennifer Tobie was a first-time winner, taking the women's 40-49 AG with a time of 25:07. Amanda Balser leads the GP standings with 40 points, 10 points ahead of Debi Fairchild.
In the men's 40-49 AG, Rob Taylor (19:56) took first and remains atop the GP standings with 50 points. Taylor's win was his fifth of the year.
Alexis LaCentra was the first woman to finish in the 30-39 AG, notching a time of 30:13. This was LaCentra's second win of the season, and she now leads her AG by 17 points in the GP standings.
In the men's 30-39 AG, Bjorn Jones took the top spot with a time of 18:42. With the win, Jones creeps to within four points of GP leader Larry Defeyter. This was Jones' fifth win of the season.
Amanda Bratton tallied her fourth win of the season, taking the women's 19-29 AG with a time of 22:16. Bratton leads Caitlyn Oats by seven in the GP standings.
Kael Newton was first in the men's 15-18 AG, crossing in a time of 18:52. Devon Cloud still leads that AG in the GP standings by 22 points.
In the women's 15-18 AG, Lauren Runte was the first to finish with a time of 29:16. Holly Harrison maintains the points lead in that AG with 34, 10 more than Joy Castro-Wehr who sits in second.
In the women's 11-14 AG, Callie Bickmore placed first with a time of 25:42. Lexie Madigan leads in the GP standings with 42 points in that AG.
In the men's 11-14 AG, Joshua Fairchild (24:44) claimed victory, his fourth of the year, and now leads the GP standings by 17 points over Lars Weston.
In the women's 1-10 AG, Hannah Fairchild claimed her first win of the season with a time of 42:26 and now trails Riley Madigan by nine points in the GP standings.
In the men's 1-10 AG, Sean Cullers also claimed his first win of the season with a time of 22:15. The men's 1-10 AG is led by Joe Bigley with 41 points.
The next chance to race and earn points will be the Kellermann 5K and 10K in Nevada City Aug. 17.
