Splash City nets NCASA B1 title, Sunday’s Best takes B2 championship

Splash City lived up to their name Thursday night, hitting 12 3-pointers on their way to a 72-60 victory over Old School in the Nevada County Adult Sports Association B1 basketball championship game.
The long bombers for Splash City were slow to get going and Old School capitalized, building a 27-16 lead in the second quarter, but then shots started to fall for Splash City.
Justin Smith scored five of his 13 points to sway the momentum and Splash City finished the half on a 17-6 run to knot the game at 33 at the end of the first half.
Splash City continued its onslaught in the third, hitting eight 3-pointers in the quarter to open up a 55-46 lead as they entered the fourth. Kyle Hall hit three 3-pointers in the third for Splash City to help create the gap. Hall would finish with 13 points on the night.
In the fourth, Old School crept back in it after Andrea Lo Jacono scored four straight and Jasper Yai tallied an easy basket, making it, 57-61, but that was as close as it would get. Smith answered with a 3-pointer and Michael Tapia scored six points down the stretch to pull away.
Tapia led Splash City with 17 points and Hari Jones added 15 to give the B1 champs four players in double figures.

Also helping Splash City to victory was Eric Christen (3 points, 8 rebounds), Josh Scott (5 points), Will Ward (4 points), and Matt Serna.
For Old School, Sam Hochwald led the way with 16 points, but left after an injury in the third quarter. Lo Lacono added 15 points and Chris Maharin chipped in 11.
The NCASA's B2 title game featured the No. 6 seed Robinson Enterprises vs. the No. 5 seed Sunday's Best in a matchup of underdogs.
Sunday's Best would prove to be the best Thursday, beating Robinson Enterprises, 58-47.
With only five on the Sunday's Best roster there was very little rest, but the scrappy team won the rebounding game and scratched out the victory.
Leading Sunday's Best was Chase Dixon with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Nate Osterholt crashed the boards hard with 14 rebounds to go with 15 points. Trevor Wade added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Sunday's Best, Lorence Anderson came up with seven points and Nate Brady added two points to go with several assists.
Leading Robinson Enterprises was Wayne Mac with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and Chris Swanson added 15 points and six rebounds.
The NCASA A-League championships are set for 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building.
