RUNNING: Bordoni continues Freedom Run reign
July 12, 2017
Jack Bordoni's dominance at the Freedom Run 5K continued last week as the distance runner from Los Altos claimed yet another first place finish at the annual Fourth of July race held at Nevada Union High School.
Bordoni, 23, completed the 5K course, which traverses the woods near Nevada Union as well as surrounding areas in Grass Valley, in a time of 17 minutes and 33 seconds to win the men's 5K for the third straight year and sixth time in the last seven years.
The only time since 2011 Bordoni hasn't won the men's Freedom Run 5K was in 2014, when he was second to Garrett Migliozzi, who finished less than a second ahead of Bordoni.
Local runner Makie Ohler, 55, won the women's 5K, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:07. For Ohler, it's her third victory of the season, having already won the Daffodil 10K and the Spring Run 10K.
Age group winners in the women's 5K included: Jade Biittner (25:41) in the 10-and-under AG, Raven Biittner (26:10) in the 11-14 AG, Haley Wingard (30:39) in the 19-29 AG, Melanie Marsico (23:17) in the 30-39 AG, Kerin Hennessey (25:46) in the 40-49 AG, Ohler (22:07) in the 50-59 AG, Susan Madigan (27:36) in the 60-69 AG, and Lynne Hurrell (34:52) in the 80-99 AG.
