The Gold Country Grand Prix is heading to Nevada City for its fourth stop of the 2017 season, the first ever Read, Write, Run! 5K/10K.

Previously known as the Falling Leaves Run, the race underwent some re-branding since last year and asked for new name suggestions from students at Seven Hills and Deer Creek schools, said race director Kathy Newton. When all the votes were counted — the Read, Write, Run! 5K/10K was born and will debut this Saturday.

"We look forward to putting on a good race and hopefully building it into a mainstay in the Grand Prix," Newton said.

The race is the second of three Grand Prix events to traverse Nevada City and will take runners from Deer Creek School through the Seven Hills Business District and back to Deer Creek School.

The Read, Write, Run! raises funds for the Nevada City School Foundation, which provides grant money to the Nevada City School District to support art, technology, health and wellness programs, and other special student programs.

"All the money raised goes right back into the schools," Newton said.
