Prep roundup: Nevada Union JV softball tops Del Oro

The Nevada Union junior varsity softball team topped Sierra Foothill League foe Del Oro, 6-5, Friday.
Alex Pussich and Aycee Willis split duties in the circle. Pussich threw the first three innings before Willis took over. Willis allowed just one run and garnered the win.
Pussich shined from the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. NU’s Gracie Ramos added an RBI and Kaila Lamos also chipped in an RBI in the win. Willis had two hits and scored a run and Kendal Bivona had a hit and two RBIs.
The win was much needed after NU had lost to Rocklin 19-2 the day before. In that game, Quianna Arnberg came through with two RBIs for NU.
JV: Nevada Union 2, Del Oro 1
The Miners won a hard-fought game against Sierra Foothill League rival Del Oro Wednesday.
Nevada Union started off with a 26-24 win in the first set. They fell to the Eagles 18-25 in the second set, but finally came alive sealing the match win 15-10 in the third set. Freshman Lucas Kerley led the offense, totaling eight kills in the match. Evan Murray, also a freshman, did a great job filling the shoes of missing sophomore outside hitter Gram Champagne and added five kills.
Freshman Teven Painter tallied nine assists on the night while Freshman Trevor Campbell led the defense with nine digs. Sophomore Kyle Treese had a strong night at the line, leading the miners with two serving aces and zero errors.
NU’s next match is at 5 p.m. Monday against Roseville in the Albert Ali Gymnasium.
