Prep roundup: Lady Bruins continue to roll in PVL play

The Lady Bruins softball team notched their fifth win in Pioneer Valley League play Thursday, beating Colfax 6-3.
Bear River got a complete game from Nerissa Long, throwing seven innings, striking out 12, walking one and giving up three runs, only one of which was earned.
From the plate, Bear River's Arielle Koerber had an RBI double; Dayna Wicks added a base knock and two RBIs; Rachel Last chipped in a single, scored a run and stole three bases; Danielle Crilly went 1-for-3; and Long helped herself out with a double and a run scored.
The Lady Bruins (13-3, 5-0 PVL) will take the next 11 days off before taking on Center April 22.

The Lady Falcons are now 9-0 in Central Valley California League play after beating second place Delta by two.
Sarah Ponce punched in two goals for FLC and Seleste Miranda pitched the shutout as goalkeeper. Ponce leads the team with 20 goals this season.
The Lady Falcons (12-4, 9-0 CVCL) take the pitch again April 24 against Victory Christian.
Rocklin 4, Nevada Union 1
The Lady Miners played a tough match against Rocklin on the Sierra College field Thursday, with the heat staying dialed up to the last second.
After a quick score against the Miner's in the first half. senior Lilli Collins sent a fantastic ball up to the outside mid, Jessica Phillips who worked the ball into scoring position with her teammate Cayce Shaw and then Amber Van Hecke put it in the net.
The teams played pretty evenly throughout the game, but Rocklin found net two more times and with equal scoring opportunity, the Miners came within inches of putting several more shots into the goal. But it just wasn't in the cards.
Junior keeper Emma Curtis had a stellar game. Junior Christy O'Connor has also been a huge asset with her diversity in positions where she can use her speed and strength to benefit the team at any moment.

Golden Sierra 2
The Falcons got strong outings from their singles players and cruised to victory over Golden Sierra Thursday.
The Falcons' Scott Gauthier, Mitchell Gruner, Jessica Burnett and Sydney Foliente each tallied wins in singles events.
Lauren Piner and Rachel Lupo notched a doubles win for FLC, and the mixed doubles team of Lindsay Strawser and Jordan Cohlmeyer also won.
Del Oro 5, Nevada Union 4
The Miners had a close match against Del Oro Thursday, losing by just one match.
At No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Michael Quinn and Weston Strawser had tough opponents from DO. Quinn started to get into his match as it progressed, but his match ended with a score 1-6, 3-6.
"Michael always brings great energy and intensity to his matches, so you can never count him out no matter who he is playing,"said NU head coach Russ Woodward in an email.
Strawser never could get a run going and ended at 2-6, 0-6.
Pedro Spegiorin seemed to have his match under control but fell short in the third set.
A freshman at No. 4 singles, Jack Wright took a Del Oro to three sets and won the third set, 6-3.
"Jack is a player who never gives up and that makes him difficult to play against," Woodward said.
At No. 5 singles, another freshman Romeo Connors could not quite get his game going and finished 2-6, 1-6. Kai Usami had trouble in his match and fell 1-6, 0-6.
At No. 1 doubles, NU had the team of Ben Beltran and Kris Colen, and they played with their usual energy and took the match 6-1, 6-0. No. 2 doubles took a little more time to do it, but Connor Pardini and Franz Shimek took a third-set tiebreaker to win their match. Cody Capella and Kyler Vaughn also won at No. 3 doubles, with a score of 6-0, 6-3.
The Miners next match is against Roseville April 22 at Roseville.
Placer 197, Bear River 296
The Bruins were no match for the Hillmen at the Par-36 Auburn Valley Country Club Thursday.
Bear River was led by Kris Edie with a 55, Drew Cramer finished with a 56, Ryan Wagner shot a 57 and Chris Raigoza and James Lavelle both finished with a 64.
The loss drops Bear River to 3-5 in PVL play.
Del Oro 202, Nevada Union 216
The Miners fell to Del Oro Thursday at the par-36 Turkey Creek Golf Club in Lincoln.
Nevada Union was led by Derek Frank with a 36, Logan Lowe shot a 40, Max Heinzelman finished with a 44, Andrew Puleo tallied a 46 and Daniel Lofstrand rounded things out with a 48.
