Prep roundup: Forest Lake Christian soars past Delta in CVCL opener

The Forest Lake Christian baseball team started the Central Valley California League season off on the right foot Monday, beating Delta 3-1 on the Saints' home diamond.
Falcon ace Hunter Phillips pitched a complete game, allowing one unearned run and striking out seven along the way.
Wils Riley and Jacob Yarborough each went 1-for-3 from the plate, and Daniel Cuneo tallied an RBI in the win.
The Falcons (2-1, 1-0 CVCL) will look to make it two league wins in a row Thursday when they host Victory Christian.
Bear River 22, Foothill 8
The Bruin bats were alive and well against Foothill with 13 hits and 22 runs.

Senior infielder Michael Raigoza was 4-for-6 with two RBIs, Andrew Reiss was 3-for-6 with four RBIs, David Chorjel had a double and four RBIs, Jake Sypnicki added a pair of RBIs, and Andrew Harris had two doubles and two RBIs.
Brodie Beck got the start and the win, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing two earned runs. Michael Scudero and Sypnicki entered in relief of Beck and allowed just one run in 3 2/3 innings of combined work.
The Bruins take the diamond again Wednesday when they travel to face Placer.
Rocklin 11, Nevada Union 1
The Lady Miners fell Monday to Sierra Foothill League foe Rocklin by 10 runs.
Nevada Union's Torri Parman ripped a triple and later scored NU's only run on a Bailey Voss RBI single.
The Lady Miners (5-5-1, 0-2 SFL) will look to get back on track Wednesday when they take on Roseville.
JV: Rocklin 5, Nevada Union 0
The Lady Miners could muster only two hits Monday in a shutout loss to Rocklin.
Nevada Union gave up an unearned run in the first, but held Rocklin scoreless until the fifth.
The Thunder put the game out of reach in the fifth with three hits and two NU errors, which led to four runs.
Bailey Kennedy went the full seven innings on the mound for NU, allowing seven hits while walking just one.
Devinity Buendia tallied a triple in the loss, and Kendall Bivona accounted for the Lady Miners' other base hit.
The Lady Miners split four games over the weekend, beating Las Plumas and Oroville Saturday before dropping games to Shasta and West Valley Sunday.
FLC 5, Woodland Christian 0
The Lady Falcons are flying high this season. The Forest Lake Christian girls soccer team stayed perfect in 2013 with a decisive win Monday over Woodland Christian.
Riley Ballard, FLC's goalkeeper, pitched the shutout, and the Lady Falcons got goals from four different players.
Sarah Jeffries led the way with two goals, and Makena Wong, Sarah Ponce and Marissa Peterson each notched a goal in the win.
Track and field
Nevada Union boys, girls take 10th at CAL invitational
The Nevada Union track and field team showed its stuff along with 30 other schools and more than 500 athletes Saturday at the CAL Invitational at Whitney High School.
The Miners had several athletes place in the top 10 in individual events, and as a team, the boys placed 10th, the girls also finished 10th, and the frosh/soph team took 11th.
Delaney Smith placed first in the high jump, Garrett Migliozzi took third in both the 800-meter run and the 1,600, Nadia Trokman was fifth in the 400, and Monserate Nieves took sixth in the 100.
Other NU athletes placing in the top 10 were David French in the 1,600, Colby Scanlon in the 3,200, Cori Maves in the pole vault, Colton Barker in the shot put, Nick McFall in discus, Colin Echols in the high jump, Keagen McKenzie in the triple jump, Nora Pizzella in the 3,200, Alyssa Garrett in the 300 hurdles and Holly Harrison in the high jump.
