Prep roundup: Bruins lose in OT to Placer

The Bear River boys basketball team gave rival Placer all it could handle Wednesday night, but in the end, the Hillmen took home a 58-55 overtime win.
The Bruins (13-11, 1-7 Pioneer Valley League) forced overtime when Travis Anderson grabbed an offensive rebound and scored the put-back as time expired.
Anderson finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Justin Beskeen closed the night with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
For Placer (18-7, 5-3 PVL), Isaiah Pineiro led the way with 31 points, and Michael McNamara added 13.
Bear River takes the court again Friday when it faces Colfax.

The Bruins had every player on the roster score as they thumped Placer at home Wednesday night.
David O'Brien led the way with 14 points, including 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Dave Mastrella had 12 points. Josh Davis and Brandon Murphy also scored in double figures, each scoring 11 points. Murphy led the team in rebounding with nine boards. The Bruins are now 4-4 in league play.
Granite Bay 58,
Nevada Union 44
The Miners got off to a slow start Wednesday and never fully recovered.
Nevada Union (8-17, 1-7 Sierra Foothill League) fell behind Granite Bay 17-2 in the first quarter but battled back to make it 35-27 at half.
The Miners kept it within 10 for most the second half, but 2-for-11 shooting from the free-throw line hurt them down the stretch.
Lucas Vojak led the Miners with 15 points, and senior Cody Gardner added nine and had a strong floor game, said NU head coach Jeff Dellis.
The Miners will look to snap their current seven-game losing skid Friday when they play Del Oro.
JV: Granite Bay 39,
Nevada Union 38 OT
The Miners let one slip through their hands Wednesday night, falling in overtime to the Grizzlies by one.
After a missed opportunity in regulation, Nevada Union (11-14, 1-7 SFL) was edged in overtime for their seventh league loss of the season.
Leading NU was Trevor Humpherys with 11 points, and Owen Smith added seven.
The Miners take the court again Friday when they face Del Oro.
Freshmen: Granite Bay 65, Nevada Union 55
The Miners blew a seven-point halftime lead Wednesday night and dropped one to Granite Bay by 10.
The shorthanded Miners played with just seven players and couldn't keep up with the run-and-gun style of Granite Bay.
"They played so hard, and I'm so proud of them," NU head coach Guy Greever said. "But I think we just got gassed out."
NU was led by Jahn Chensee with 20 points and Dave Menary with 14.
The Miners hit the hardwood again Friday against Del Oro.
