Local dojo fares well in Redding

Over the weekend, five Grass Valley Kenpo Family Karate students participated in Scott Halsey's Karate Championships in Redding with great success.

In the women's adult division, Cynthia Soszka took first place in sparring and placed second in forms.

In the beginners 10 and 11 division, Patrick Underwood took home the top spot in forms.

Placing second in the beginners 10 and 11 division forms was Tim Diapolous, and T.J. Vaughn notched second in the beginners 9-and-under forms. Xabi Arriaga also participated in the event.

"We are very proud of all of our students. For many of them, this was their first competition, and they represented our school and the community well," co-owner and head instructor David A. Garcia Jr. wrote in an email.
