Submitted to The Union

The Grass Valley Giants visited the Nevada City Tigers Monday night in what turned out to be a Little League thriller.

The Giants would eventually leave the ball park with a 13-8 victory, but it wasn't without a fierce effort from the Tigers.

Both teams pitched their aces, Andrew Link for the Giants and Andrew Pardini for the Tigers.

The Giants struck for two in the first on a single by Adam Dennis and a base hit by Gary Menary followed by Cole Johnson knocking in both runs with a key two-out base hit for the 2-0 lead.

The Tigers came out swinging against Link. Hard singles by Nick Whittlesey and Kevin Mathieson were followed by a crushing ground rule double by Pardini. With one run in and runners on second and third and no outs, Link retired the next three batters to keep the score 2-1.

Down 3-1 in the third, the Tigers got five straight base hits by Whittlesey, Mathieson, Pardini, Thomas T., and Ethan Garrity.
