Hundreds compete at Harmony Run

More than 115 runners took to Nevada Union High School June 1 for the Harmony Run 5K/10K with the usual suspects taking the top spots.
In the men's 10K, veteran runner Bjorn Jones took first place overall with a time of 40 minutes, 24 seconds, improving his standing in the Gold Country Grand Prix. He now sits only 10 points behind 30-39 age group leader Larry DeFeyter, who has won all four 5K races in his AG this season. This was Jones' third straight AG win in the 10K.
In the women's 10K, Joy Castro-Wehr was the overall winner with a time of 53:57. With the win, Castro-Wehr now trails 15-18 AG leader Holly Harrison by six points.
In the men's 5K, it was DeFeyter taking the overall top spot with a time of 19:54 and securing his lead in the 30-39 AG. On the women's side, the overall 5K winner was Amanda Bratton with a time of 22:46. The win was Bratton's third of the year and her second in 5K races.
Other AG winners in the women's 5K were Riley Madigan (40:50) in the 10 and under AG. Hannah Fairchild was second in the AG, finishing just eight seconds behind Madigan, who leads the AG in the GP standings with 30 points.
In the 11-14 AG Lexie Madigan (25:38) was first. Lexie leads her AG by 10 points over Maddy Zucca, who finished second in the Harmony Run 5K with a time of (27:43).
In one of the closest races of the day, Nadia Torkman (27:27) edged out Natalie Gallagher (27:28) in the 15-18 AG. Alexis LeCentra (29:00) continued her strong showing in the GP with her first win in the 30-39 AG, which she leads by four points over Lisa Moeschler, who finished first in the 10K in the 30-39 AG.
In the 40-49 AG, it was Amanda Balser (23:48) claiming the top spot in the 5K and maintaining her five-point lead over Debi Fairchild, who finished first in her AG in the 10K race. In the 50-59 AG, Rose Asquith (23:38) was first in the 5K and now trails Makie Ohler by three points in the GP standings. Anne King (25:10) finished second in the 50-59 AG. Genielle Odom (32:51) was the first women in the 60-69 AG to cross in the 5K and leads her AG with 28 points. In the 70-99 AG, Lynne Hurrell (37:36) continued her dominance and now leads her AG with 30 points.
On the men's side, other 5K AG winners were Joseph Bigley (30:36) in the 10 and under AG. Bigley leads the AG by 10 points with 30 overall. In the 11-14 AG, Lars Weston (20:24) tallied another win, his third of the year in his AG. Weston trails Joshua Fairchild by seven points in the GP standings. Fairchild (57:34) grabbed 10 points in the 10K race to maintain his lead.
In the 15-18 AG, the 5K winner was Jonathan Willis (28:10). Ben Thomas (20:35) took the 40-49 AG and now trails Rob Taylor by two points in the GP standings. Taylor took the 10K race with a time of (42:38). It was his third race victory of the season and second in the 10K races. Steve Bond (21:33) was first to finish in the 50-59 AG and now trails Phillip Desjardins by 10 points in the AG. Desjardins (42:52) won his AG in the 10K for the fourth time in four tries this season.
In the 60-49 AG, Mike Buzbee (21:37), of Yuba City, was first. In the 70-99 AG it was Ron Gross (24:38) crossing first and Gary Loucks (29:09) taking second in the AG. Gross leads the AG with 40 points but is followed closely by Darryl Beardall with 37 points and Loucks with 31 points. Beardall won the AG in the 10K.
Other 10K AG winners on the men's side were Devon Cloud (41:24) in the 15-18 AG. Cloud leads his AG with 37 points. Ryan Meacher (57:54) won the 19-29 AG and remains atop the GP standings in his AG with 37 points. Greg Jewitt (51:52) won the 60-69 AG and now trails Denis O'Halloran in the GP standings by just five points, 37-32.
Other 10K winners on the women's side were Terri Horlick (84:24) in the 60-69 AG and Sherri Glenn (57:57) in the 50-59 AG. Glenn now trails Ohler by five points in the GP standings.
The next stop on the Gold Country Grand Prix is the Freedom Run held July 4 at Nevada Union.
