Golfers “Drive on Route 66” at NCCC Ladies Invitational
June 17, 2013
The Nevada County Country Club's Women's Group had golfers hit the road while playing on their home course at the annual Ladies Invitational, which was themed "Driving on Route 66."
Tournament chairman Sherrie Rankin and her committee did a great job with the fun theme, having the golfers head from Santa Monica to Chicago in 18 holes with a few detours and side trips along the way, including old cars from the 1950s and a rest stop for root beer floats and old-time candies and crackerjacks.
Overall winners for the tournament were members Andrea McGovern and Carolyn Michelsen with their guests Louise English and Peggy Hubert with a score of 120.
In the "Heading West" flight, top honors went to the team of Sandy Hansen and Cathy Fouyer and their guests, Madeleine Selleck and Arlene Fowler, shooting 126. Second place was decided by a tie-breaker with the team of Sherrie Rankin and Jane Parson and guests Sue Underwood and Renny Baker taking the spot, and the team of Jo Menary with guests Barb Pearce, Marie Cook and Carol Hocking finishing third, both with scores of 127. Fourth place went to the team of Chris Elko and Lynn Hinrichs with guests Kathy Runnels and Carol Kraemer scoring 129.
In the "Heading East" flight, a tiebreaker was used to determine the winner from two teams with scores of 124. First place went to members Marian Slayton and Pat Tremewan with guests Linda Thode and Katy McKay. The second-place team was Kandice Kelley and Maggie Flecksteiner and their guests Sally Stemen and Carol Elizondo. Bobbie Heard and Pat Gaddis with Barbara Hankins and Billie Mitchell took third (129), and Pat Tintle and Shirley Griggs finished fourth with their guests Trudy Crough-Phillips and Margie Wagner (131).
