The Falcons impressive season continues today as they fly into their final tournament of the season, opening the CIF NorCal D-V Boys Basketball Tournament against Pinewood High School in Los Altos Hills.
Forest Lake Christian (25-4) enters the contest a week removed from a blowout loss, 86-27, to Capital Christian in the Sac-Joaquin Section D-V semifinals.
“The boys finally got over that Capital Christian game and are glad to get out and play someone we feel we can compete with,” FLC head coach Jason Camacho said.
Capital Christian went on to win the D-V section title and will compete in the NorCal tourney but in the Open Division.
“They are similar to Ripon Christian in that they are very disciplined. I think we matchup well, but we might be a little quicker. The boys are excited, they’re fired up.”
— Jason Camacho,
FLC head coach
The game against Capital Christian was in stark contrast from what FLC had been accustomed to in the regular season that saw the Falcons win 25 games, claim the Central Valley California League title and average 73.6 points per game.
Pinewood (23-4) is a relatively young team with just two seniors, but that didn’t stop it from winning a share of the West Bay League championship, and reaching the Central Coast Section D-V championship, where it beat Priory, 47-46.
“It’s a well established school,” Camacho said. “They draw a lot of talented athletes.”
The Falcons have seen some game tape on Pinewood and Camacho thinks his team matches up well.
“They are similar to Ripon Christian in that they are very disciplined,” Camacho said. “I think we matchup well, but we might be a little quicker. The boys are excited, they’re fired up.”
On the season Pinewood scores 53.9 points per game and allows just 44.3 points per game. The two teams have no common opponents this season, and Pinewood is 8-2 on its home floor while Forest Lake Christian is 6-1 in road games.
