Bear River notches several top-10 finishes at x-country meet

At the second Pioneer Valley League cross country meet of the season, this time at Colfax High School, Bear River's girls team gave Placer a scare, but in the end, the Hillgals ran away with a five-point victory.
Mary Nattrass led the Lady Bruins with a dominating race and a first-place overall finish with a time of 21 minutes and 8 seconds. Strong performances from Kimmy Pugel, sixth, Sierra Mitchell, eighth, Cecilia Malik, ninth, Hallie Pettitt, 10th, Rachel Olsen, 19th, and Jessica Meylor, 22nd, rounded out the girls varsity team.
On the boys side, Alex Coffman, Bear River's No. 1 runner, continues to work his way back from injury in impressive style. Coffman finished the boys varsity race in third place, covering the 5K course in a time of 17:27.
Next up for the Bruins is the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational at Folsom High School Saturday.

The Lady Falcons lost for the first time this season in Central Valley California League play, falling to Victory Christian in five sets, 23-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-6.
"We lost our focus and never could really get it back," FLC head coach Travis Smith said. "I've never had a team completely self-destruct like this."
Morgan Koch led FLC with 14 kills, Hannah Zea added eight kills, and Aly English finished with seven.
With the loss, The Lady Falcons fall into a tie with Woodland Christian at the top of the CVCL with identical records of 6-1.
Forest Lake Christian will look to find its winning way again Tuesday against Delta.
Nevada Union 285
The Lady Miners dropped their final Sierra Foothill League head to head matchup, losing to Woodcreek by eight strokes.
Leading NU was Megan Arnett with a 49, Carly Keogh shot a 51, Lilly Pruett notched a 58, Elaine Cope had a 58, and Morgan Hopkins finished with a 69.
The Lady Miners hit the links one more time as a team Monday at the final SFL tourney.
Lincoln 264, Bear River 285
The Lady Bruins dropped to 3-6 in PVL play Thursday after falling to Lincoln by nine strokes.
Lincoln's Kaitlyn McKinney was the medalist with a 46. Leading Bear River was Jessica Pisenti with a 47, Cassie Smith was next with a 54, Shelby Lampson finished with a 64, Delaney Kaper shot a 64, and Olivia Naves rounded out the scoring with a 65.
Bear River hits the links again Monday at a PVL tourney.
Junior high girls basketball
Magnolia 45, Weimar 28
In the first round of the Nevada County Tournament, the Lady Rattlers topped the Weimar Warriors, beating them by 17.
The Lady Rattler defense was led by Grace Sypnicki, Kaylee Guerra and Kaity Nat.
Ashley Albee led all scorers with 22 points, and Summer Brown tossed in 11. Brown and Albee also led the Magnolia in rebounding.
Lyman Gilmore 41,
Seven Hills 32
On Tuesday, Lyman Gilmore concluded an 11-1 regular season by downing Seven Hills by nine.
Aycee Dykes led the Lady Bombers with 15 points, Avery Delhez added 12, Ashtyn Dykes pitched in six, and Maya Pemberton scored six.
