Gold Country gymnasts land podium finishes in Oroville

Competing in their second official competition of the season, the Gold Country Gymnastics boys went to Oroville Gymnastics and landed several podium medals and tallied improved all-around scores.

Taking top honors on the parallel bars in Level 6 (younger division) was Jeffrey Wagnecht with a 10.8. Wagnecht also placed first on vault with a 10.1 and scored a 9.2 on the pommel horse.

In Level 7 (all ages), Nathan Arthur took third on vault with an 11.9. Arthur also finished fourth on the pommel horse with a 10.1 and qualified for the state meet.

In Level 5 (older division), Brandon Pengelley placed first on parallel bars with a 10.2, took fifth on vault with a 9.6 and tallied a 9 on the pommel horse.

Also in Level 5 (older division), Andrew Fairchild scored a 9.1 on vault, and a 9 on rings.

In Level 8 (younger division), Rhett Miller took second on vault with a 12.1, placed fourth on hi-bar with an 11.3, was sixth on parallel bars with an 11.8 and, to top things off, finished sixth on the floor exercise with an 11.6.

In Level 8 (older division), Joshua Cooley placed fourth on the vault with an 11.5, was fifth on floor with an 11.5 and also scored 9.5 on rings.

In Level 10 (all ages), Nathan Hunt scored a 9.3 on rings, 11.1 on vault and 10.2 on parallel bars.

In Level 4, Alex Daniels, Kaden Kinnear, John Rose and Nicholas Rose all had impressive scores in only their second competition and improved their all-around scores by several points.

Coaches may submit game reports by email at or byphone at 530-477-4232. Deadline for submission is 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5 p.m. Sunday.
