The Lady Bruins got a career night from senior Maddi Dunn as they flowed right past Bear Creek in the Casa Roble Tournament semifinals, 52-38.

Dunn, known for her defensive prowess, exploded for 20 points, including two 3-pointers. Dunn did most of her damage in the first half. Bear River led 21-18 at the midway point with the lanky guard scoring 13 of the Lady Bruins’ 21 points. Dunn also had seven steals and five assists on the night.

Bear River pulled away in the third, outscoring Bear Creek 18-8 in the quarter, and then just matched buckets the rest of the way, said Bear River head coach Jeff Bickmore.

The Lady Bruins also got 15 points from senior Kaitlyn Reina to go with 10 rebounds, Teryn Rath also pulled down 10 boards, Lauren Runte dished out six assists, and Jennifer Alberts scored seven in the win.

JV: Chico 52, Nevada Union 47

For only the third time this season an opponent scored more than 50 points on the Miners, and NU simply couldn’t keep pace, losing to Chico in the Pleasant Valley Tournament semifinals.

The Miners led 15-10 after one quarter but a troublesome second quarter had them staring at a 10-point halftime deficit from which they never recovered.

Kross Corbett led NU with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Bo Perkins added 10, Nick Ortiz chipped in nine and Chance Brown scored eight.

The Miners will battle for third place at 6:30 p.m. today.
