Prep roundup: Bear River girls basketball blows out Woodland


The Bear River girls basketball team put together a solid defensive performance Thursday, knocking off Woodland, 54-5, in the opening round of the Casa Roble Tournament.

Bear River received help from all of its players as everyone contributed minutes on the court.

The Lady Bruins were led by senior Teryn Rath, who earned a double-double with a team-high 10 points to go with 11 boards. Senior Jenn Alberts tossed in nine points and Kaitlyn Reina chipped in eight, grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds.

The game was put out of reach quickly as the Lady Bruins built a 17-0 midway through the first quarter. The squad’s relentless defense kept Woodland out of sync and off the scoreboard the entire first half.

The Lady Bruins (10-2) take the court today in the semifinal round against Bear Creek.

Enterprise 43

In a back and forth affair between the Miners and Enterprise of Redding, NU rallied late, outscoring the Hornets 20-9 in the fourth quarter to win by four in the first round of the Pleasant Valley (Chico) boys basketball tournament.

Heading into the fourth quarter the Miners trailed 34-27, but got eight points from Chance Brown and six from Kross Corbett in the final stanza to push NU to victory.

Brown finished with a team high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Corbett closed with 12 points.

The Miners (8-4) will now face Chico in the tourney semis at 6:30 p.m. today.
