Western Nevada County Slow-pitch Softball Association and Insight Imaging will host the second annual Saved by Second Base softball event July 20 and 21 at Memorial Park to provide funding for free mammograms to those in need in Nevada County.
July 20 will be a one-day women’s tournament starting at 9 a.m and running until 10 p.m. The cost to enter is $250 per team, but organizers encourage teams to get sponsors and go beyond.
The team registering with the highest dollar amount wins a team ice chest full of drinks, fruit, snacks and lunch.
July 21 will be a one-day co-ed draw tournament starting at 9 a.m. and going until 10 p.m. Sign up as individuals or pairs to be placed on a team by random draw,
The cost is $25 per person. Men will use wood bats that will be provided.
Prizes will be awarded for the most doubles hit in Saturday’s competition with the bounty being a pink purse full of gift cards. Sunday’s most doubles winner scores a date-night package. There is fun for the whole family with food, drinks and numerous raffle prizes throughout the weekend long event.
For information or to get signed up, contact Ronnie Warmerdam at 530-615-8595 or Insight Imaging at 530-273-2720.
If you don’t want to participate, but still want to help, sponsor a player at $25 or a team at $250 or donate to a team player. All proceeds — every penny donated — goes straight to the Saved by Second Base fund at Insight Imaging to offset costs of mammography and breast ultrasounds. No one should delay imaging due to finances. Early detection saves lives.
Last year’s inaugural event raised $3,000 and provided for 15 free mammograms to local women and, in some cases, further testing, said Warmerdam.
