The Nevada County Country Club held its Fourth of July tournament and barbeque where golfers played a team game called “Patriots” with the number of balls to score on each hole decided by the red, white or blue ribbons that decorated each of the pin flags.
In the Men’s Flight, the team of Dan Johnson, Bill Thompson, Jim Helzer and Elbia Hall took top honors with a net score of 103. Coming in second was the team of Phil Condict, Ron Keeling, Jim Shirley and Rick Metz with a score of 109 followed by the group of Dave Almassy, Dave Boynton, Dave Koslosky and Ashok Pandit in third place with 115 and finishing fourth were Paul Silva, Ray Krutiak, James Wick and Tim Haley with 116.
In the Couples Flight, the top spot went to Gary and Mary Deardoff and Louie and Marian Slayton with a net score of 104. Butch and Cathy Fouyer and George and Sandy Hansen took second with 109, followed by Mel and Pat Gaddis and Jim and Bobbie Heard in third with 112. Dan Triano, Bonnie Marvelli, Bob and Maggie Flecksteiner grabbed fourth with 113, and Harlan and Nancy Williams and Ken and Grace Dolan took fifth with a score of 116. Closest to the pin contests were won by Gary Deardorff, Suzanne Busch and Cathy Fouyer.
Afterwards players headed to the 19th hole where were treated to a great chicken BBQ hosted by club pro Mike Rademaker and his wife Marge.
