Giving back to the community and, more specifically, supporting local charities has developed many wonderful partnerships between golf clubs and nonprofit organizations.
At a national level, the PGA Tour’s combined contributions totaled $130 million in 2012 and are approaching the $2 billion milestone all time. In the Gold Country also, many charities work together with golf clubs to increase awareness and raise funds.
Recently, at the Alta Sierra Country Club, a number of wonderful organizations have benefitted through the game of golf. To name a few, the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation, Hospice of the Foothills and local schools have raised thousands and educated the community through this great game. Each event was part of a fabulous day for golfers to have fun with their sport and support these well-respected programs.
Upcoming, on June 29, is the annual golf tournament to raise monies and awareness for the Fire Protection Council and Nevada County Law Enforcement, affectionately known as “Guns & Hoses.” This is a memorable day with Grass Valley’s finest, emergency vehicles displayed on property and a couple of helicopters coming to rest on the first fairway, brought to you by CalStar and the California Highway Patrol.
Not only do the events include a fun day of golf, often there are putting contests, ball drops (no, not that), on-course awards, lots of food and, naturally, a bunch of free stuff from sponsors and contributing vendors.
If you would like participate in the 11th annual Guns & Hoses Golf Tournament, send me an email.
Or if your organization could benefit from a golf tournament fundraiser, give your local golf professional a call. He would be proud to help your program and the community through this great game.
