Lady Miners softball team finishes strong in weekend tournament


The NU girls softball squad played five games in tournament this weekend and finished 2-2-1.

In the opening game, a 4-4 tie against Corning, Alexis Deatrick started on the mound, threw two innings, giving up two hits, one run, two walks and recording one strike out. Peternell Lacey entered the game, pitched four innings, yielding three runs, five hits, a pair of walks and fanned five. Shyanne Parrish went 2-for-3 with a triple, scored two runs and had an RBI.

The Lady Miners came to life in the second game with a 6-5 win over St. Patrick/St. Vincent. Lacey started in the circle and went five innings allowing five runs off four hits while walking five and ringing up four batters. Deatrick came in for the save in the last inning and surrendered only one hit after facing four batters. NU leadoff hitter Nolen picked up two hits, scored a run and earned an RBI. Carson Troth, Lacey, Deatrick, Torri Parman, Parrish and Sarah Lundmark each scattered hits of their own.

Nevada Union lost its third game 7-3 versus Pleasant Valley. Deatrick started at pitcher and threw three innings, surrendering three runs off five hits. Cheyanne Ramos came in as middle relief and pitched two strong innings allowing no runs, one hit, two walks and struck out one batter. Lacey came in to close and yielded four runs, five hits and a walk.

NU lost its next game 6-3 against Davis where Peternell pitched the whole game and allowed two earned runs, five hits, three walks and struck out three.

The Lady Miners concluded their tournament with a huge 14-4 win as Deatrick started in the circle and went the distance giving up three earned runs allowing no walks and striking out a pair. NU’s bats were led by junior transfer Ashleigh Balistreri from Colorado, who smashed three hits going 3-for-3 at the dish to score two RBIs. She also scored twice and made multiple defensive gems out in left field. Parman had a triple and finished 3-for-4 batting, while Nolen, Burr, Deatrick and Troth each had two hits. Alexandra Scicluna, Ramos and Peternell all added one hit.
