North Columbia Schoolhouse hosts Valentine Erotique variety show

If you’re looking to prime the senses for Valentine’s Day, the Valentine Erotique variety show will surely have something for everyone. An annual benefit for the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center, this extravaganza returns Saturday. The show will feature an array of poetry, drama, a chocolate dessert contest and other erotic entertainment. The evening kicks off with the opening reception for the Erotic Art Show from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The variety show begins at 7:30.

Molly Fisk and Bill Gainer headline the erotic-themed poetry. They have invited Sacramento poets Kelly Freeman and Lytton Bell to join them along with locals, Chris Harbour and Maxima Kahn.

“This year I’m going to recite one of Sharon Olds’ love poems ‚ a passionately twisted love poem — as a way to encourage us all to begin memorizing what we love,” said Fisk.

John Deaderick will emcee the evening’s variety of entertainment. There will be a sensuous acro yoga performance, a sampling of Shakespeare by Synthetic Unlimited actors, burlesque by the Bow Tie Beauties, comedy by Casey Burke and a few other surprises.

The chocolate dessert contest is open to the public. Bring your favorite chocolate delight for a chance to win prizes in several categories (such as most decadent, creamiest and dreamiest).

The evening will be preceded by an opening reception for the Erotic Art Show. Admission to art show is free. A ticket will be required to stay for Valentine Erotique. Advance tickets are $12 for members, $15 for non-members and can be purchased at BriarPatch Co-op, the Nevada City Box Office and Mother Truckers. Tickets are the door will be $20.
