Lady Bruins notch No. 2 seed in playoffs

After a strong finish to the regular season, the Bear River girls volleyball squad got some more good news Thursday when the Sac-Joaquin Section playoff brackets were released.

The squad, which tied for the Pioneer Valley League championship with Placer, earned the No. 2 seed in Division IV and will face off against Marysville Tuesday at home in the first round.

Bear River began its playoff push last season as the No. 4 seed and battled to a spot in the section championship against Union Mine. Despite losing in the finals, the Lady Bruins had improved on the year before when they were bounced in the semifinals. This year, they will look to keep that streak of improvement going by bringing home a section title banner to hang in Jack R. McCrory Gymnasium.

Escalon took the No. 1 spot. For the playoffs, Placer bumped up into Division III, where it is ranked No. 6.

Also learning of a playoff berth with the release of the playoff brackets were the Lady Falcons. The Forest Lake Christian girls, who finished second in the Central Valley California League behind Woodland Christian, earned the No. 12 seed in the Division V bracket.

The Lady Falcons will open on the road Tuesday at Holt Academy.
